We are searching for an Industrial PhD Candidate in Machine Learning for  Autonomous Vehicle Perception.

Are you curious and passionate about machine learning for perception in autonomous vehicles? Do you have a MSc degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or a related field? This industrial PhD position is a rare opportunity to expand your knowledge and work in a dynamic and exiting field.

ATS Pre-Development & Research is part of Scania’s research organisation working on sustainable transport solutions for the future. The work is done in close cooperation with Volkswagen group, leading technology suppliers and academic institutions. We take responsibility for creating a better and greener environment by finding answers to the questions on how we can achieve radically reduced emissions, manage the negative effects of ongoing urbanisation and save human lives in traffic.

We are currently investing heavily to push the boundaries of innovation and play a lead role in this ongoing industry transformation. Autonomous vehicles are going to have a huge impact on the society. However, to realize such a complex system there are many challenges in the area of perception, planning and control.

Your work duties
You will be an industrial PhD candidate employed full-time by Scania. This means that you will split your time between the associated department within Scania, where you will be working with development engineers in the team researching algorithms for developing cutting-edge Autonomous Transport Solutions and performing the applied part of your PhD studies, and the academic partner’s site. The partner in this project will be Department of Information Science & Engineering at KTH.

The goal of the project is to deal with the challenges in perception domain for off-road scenarios with the help of machine learning techniques using different sensors like – Camera, LiDAR and Radar.

Your profile
Your curiosity and hunger for innovation constantly drives your willingness to develop and improve the environment that you work in. You, as an individual, have a drive to constantly develop and learn new technology.

On the technical side, you have a Master's degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or a related discipline. You need to have a strong mathematical background, solid programming competence, and very good communication skills, both in written and spoken English. Ideally you have some experience in working with and implementation of Machine Learning algorithms, e.g., during your Master thesis or via an industrial project. You have good working knowledge of Python and C++ as well as Vision and Machine Learning libraries like OpenCV, TensorFlow, Keras, and Scikit-Learn.

Having working experience within Scania is a merit.
