Lead software developers Environment Perception - Vehicle Automation

Do you want to participate in the journey towards realizing automated commercial vehicles? We need people that can write the software to power those vehicles!

The Volvo Group is one of the world’s leading manufacturers of commercial vehicles like trucks, buses, construction equipment, and also marine and industrial engines, under the leading brands Volvo, Renault Trucks, Mack, UD Trucks, Eicher, SDLG, Volvo Penta, etc.

At the forefront of Research and Development in the automotive industry, Volvo Group Truck Technology (GTT) offers you the opportunity to become a part of the team that is in charge of the software development for the sensors and perception components. This team belongs to the Vehicle Automation department which has the responsibility to lead the development of Vehicle Automation and Active Safety systems for the full life-cycle enabling tomorrow’s trucks. Vehicle Automation is part of Vehicle Engineering, responsible for developing vehicle components and systems for the different brands within the Volvo Group.
The work will be in close cooperation with other parties in the GTT organization, as well as world class industrial players and academia.

Your mission:

We are currently looking for lead software developers to join our group. The group you will be part of is responsible for the signal processing of raw sensor data and sensor fusion, as well as the software that interprets the environment around the vehicle. This translates to working with development of software and algorithms, and the integration of such software.

Your main task will be to deliver quality software to low and high volume products. Low volume products are typically done to test and verify new functionality in customer setting, with faster turnaround times and shorter development cycles. High volume products typically involve mass market adaptation of technology into all AB Volvo’s vehicle brands.

You will perform in-house software development, where you will be responsible for developing code and verifying its functionality, as well as working with code and software modules from internal and external suppliers. You will work as part of a team in an agile environment using e.g. C++, Python, TensorFlow in embedded systems as well as on prototyping hardwar. Experience in version handling, unit testing, continuous integration, etc, are thus an advantage.

The perception stack that you will deploy code into includes everything from object detection to localization and free space detection, and your day to day work will thus involve sensor signal processing, sensor fusion, and filtering using data from sensors such as radars, cameras, and lidars.

The scope for the group’s responsibility in your domain is the complete life span of the related components, from concept studies, proof of concept, adopting products to our requirements (for both low volume and mass production), as well as maintenance of delivered components. Hence, we are working with, and deploying to, both AD and ADAS systems We are also involved in research projects together with both Swedish and international Universities and research institutes.
