ACDC headquarters are located in Mo i Rana, the Arctic Circle town in Nordland county, Norway. We also have an office in Trondheim. Mo i Rana is the third largest town in Northern Norway with about 25 000 inhabitants. The region is known for its wild and beautiful nature as well as being an industrial center in the northern regions. One may travel by road, railway or plane to Mo i Rana and a new larger airport is being built in 2019-2020. Trondheim is the regional center in Middle Norway and has about 200 000 inhabitants.
About Arctic Cloud
Arctic Cloud is our Public Cloud service, providing modern self-service IaaS and PaaS. It is built on open source technology, third-party services and self-developed components. We use Open Compute servers, Linux, OpenStack, Ceph, Prometheus and Grafana, to name a few open source componentes in our stack. We use high-performance hardware such as NVMe storage and 100 Gbps ethernet. We develop our own systems for customer interfaces, usage monitoring and billing.
We seek senior software developers who want to develop and operate a modern public cloud service in Norway.
Job description
As part of our skilled engineering team in Arctic Circle Data Center (ACDC), you will contribute to the development and operation of our public cloud service Arctic Cloud. As a senior developer at ACDC, you will co-develop and lead the development of our software systems, which include: Infrastructure and platform services, cloud resource management web UI, account management including sign-up/login, usage gathering and invoicing, integration with CRM/service desk and other third-party systems. You will work with open source software, both in terms of using and producing.
Your qualifications
You have several years of software development experience. You can take ownership of software components and lead a team of fellow developers. You are analytical and systematic, and passionate about automation. You've got attention to detail and don't like sloppiness. You are comfortable familiarizing yourself with new stuff. You're a good communicator, and more than willing to share your knowledge. You want to learn and you will teach. You show no attitude towards people who are less or more skilled than you. And, you can say "check!" to most items on this list:
? knowledge of programming language paradigms and properties, such as imperative vs declarative, object-oriented, functional, static vs dynamic typing, and so on.
? experience using relational databases and SQL
? experience with software testing and continuous integration/continuous delivery
? familiarity with software development practices in open source
? experience using configuration management systems (Ansible, Puppet, Chef or similar)
? experience using cloud IaaS and PaaS
? good understanding of ethernet and TCP/IP networking, especially in Linux
? familiarity with container technology (Docker, Kubernetes, LXC)
? understanding of distributed systems and concepts such as consensus, fault tolerance, and replication
? comfortable using English as the primary work language
You do not have to be a pure allrounder who knows ?a little bit of everything
