Position description
The ESS-H+ project is announcing a research engineer position in Edge computing for eHealth, where it tackles both communication and computation areas. Current developments in Internet of Things (IoT) and Cyber-Physical Systems (CPS) allow developing healthcare solutions with more intelligent capabilities. In most of IoT-based applications, gateways at the edge of the network performs basic functions in order to enable real-time support.  A smart design and implementation of an edge device enables novel eHealth applications. This position targets rehabilitation monitoring application, where measurements are supposed to be collected and processed locally. Inertial sensors (IMU) will be employed and their measured data is used to manage the rehabilitation process. This work will also involve enhancing the underlying wireless communication protocol by reducing network overhead and increasing network reliability.

Qualification requirements
This work is conducted in a collaborative and energetic research group with strong track records in Edge computing and communication with special focus on sensor systems for health. It is expected that the work is performed in the given area through a combination of experimentation and analytical modeling. Experiences and knowledge in the field of wearable sensors (e.g. healthcare and sport) such as inertial sensors are required.

Decisive importance is attached to personal suitability. We value the qualities that an even distribution of age and gender, as well as ethnic and cultural diversity, can contribute to the organization.

Merit
Excellent programming skills (e.g. C, Java and Python), good knowledge in Machine learning and deep learning methods (e.g. SVM, ANN, CNN, RNN, and Deep Forward Network), implementing physiological sensors (e.g. PPG and Inertial sensors), the experience of Arduino software, signal processing in MATLAB, as well as good oral and written communication skills in English are required. The candidate should be able to work independently, as well as in a team; and be enthusiastic about pushing the state-of-the-art. Collaboration with academic and industry partners through national/international research projects is expected.
