The School of Science and Technology is seeking a researcher in Computer Science for a temporary position

Subject area
The researcher will be employed within the collaborative project TracMac. The project aims at designing a remote sensing system for the tracking of articulated manipulators. Duties of the researcher will involve the design, implementation, and evaluation of prototype software modules for estimating the state of an articulated object, given RGB-D sensor observations. The researcher is expected to travel to partner sites, collect data, propose and implement software algorithms, and evaluate the prototype system in the laboratory and in relevant field operation conditions. The position will also involve collaboration with industrial partners, as well as work in a scientific research team.

Duties and responsibilities
A researcher shall spend their working hours mainly on research. The appointment may also include teaching, when there is a need within the organisation, to facilitate the researcher to acquire qualifications for a teaching appointment at the University. The ideal candidate for this position must have a solid theoretical background in robotics, computer vision, and perception. In particular, experience in applying deep learning to 3D perception and articulated object tracking is a requirement. Excellent programming skills and knowledge of python, C++ and ROS would be considered an advantage, as will prior experience in collaborative projects. The duties require good communication skills, with proficiency in both written and spoken English.

Information
The position as researcher is a full-time fixed-term position for approximately 1 year. The salary depends on the successful candidate’s qualifications and experience.
