Senior Director, Game Design

Game Design Craft Lead King is looking for a talented leader to guide the development of best in class game design practices across our global studios. You will be reporting to the Design craft lead (who oversees Level Design, Narrative Design, Economy Design and UI/UX Design) and champion the Game Design craft across the organization. You will be responsible for improving our game design practices and the continuous development of a world class team of game designers. You will be the global point of contact for Studio Design Directors (line managers for design in the studios) and Heads of Studio in all our offices (Stockholm, Malmö, Berlin, London, Barcelona) for all matters concerning game design advice. You will nurture and develop the game design community, making sure game designers have access to best practices, training and cross studio collaborations. You will be a key figure to make King best in class in game design practices. Key Responsibilities·       Continuously improve game design best practices across the organization.·       Act as point of contact for studio leadership on all matters related to game design.·       Make sure game designers across King have access to best in class training and education, development programs, tools and information.·       Champion the game design craft across the company, highlighting the value game design professionals bring to the games and ensuring appropriate level of staffing on all titles.·       Work with other craft leads and studio leadership to foster optimal collaboration between Game Design and other disciplines (UX Design, Production, Engineering, etc.)·       Have domain management of game design job family including job descriptions, RnR definition, recruiting support.·       Work closely with recruiting and HR to ensure the best Game Design talent is hired and nurtured·       Continuously foster a global community of game designers.·       Provide direct, hands on support on key projects. Skills to Create Thrills You will have deep knowledge of game design principles and best practices and have worked hands on as a game designer as well as a leader of game design teams across multiple products. You possess an insatiable drive for quality and have the ability to collaborate effectively with other senior leaders to bring potentially disparate views together into alignment. You have excellent communication / presentation skills and have experience career managing and developing both junior and senior level game design talent. Getting results through other comes naturally to you and you are able to change altitude quickly operating at both strategic and hands on tactical levels when necessary. ·       Thorough knowledge of key principles and game design process/methodologies for successful game design development within entertainment applications/video games, mobile game development in particular·       Knowledge of current industry best practices and experience developing innovations in game design practices for entertainment/video game applications·       Experience effectively leading and developing game design teams ideally across multiple applications or franchises·       Experience with the career management of both junior and senior level game designers·       Experience working in game design on freemium live titles·       Experience collaborating with senior leaders, able to reconcile different views and creating clear aligned strategy and goals·       Excellent verbal and written communication and presentation skills. Able to establish strong relationships even with people you do not see often.·       You are a team player, experienced in working in an influencer role and getting results through others.
