Human-Centric Lab that is part of the department Customer Experience Centre within Research & Development at Volvo Cars is responsible for increasing the focus on human-centric research and perspectives by realizing the Human-Centric Lab ideas; to combine physical and virtual product development and experimental research. The challenge consists of increasing the speed to reaching results and recommendations in the field of human factors development. Reflecting the expectations and needs of our future customers.

We are now looking for an Unity AR/VR Developer with a human-centric mind set to influence, collaborate and team up with our multi-disciplined teams. The position is based in Gothenburg, Sweden.


What you’ll do

At the HCLab your main task is to further develop and apply our recently developed and world first augmented reality car (ARCAR). This is a video see-through based evaluation rig that mixes real world with virtual overlays while driving. As an AR/VR developer you have professional experience in Unity, mechatronics and general software skills that may also involve data logging and user analysis. For this task you will need to have the skills to handle the complete set-up of the ARCAR to build end-to-end solutions for user evaluations.

You are going to be part of a strong cross-functional team that consists of technical specialists, prototypers, UX researchers in close co-operation with other experts and competence centers cross company. To further manage and develop the ARCAR prototypes you need to be able to build prototypes using Unity, C#, HTML/CSS and JavaScript, Java (Android), C++. You will create systems and complete vehicle models in Unity that connect to either new or existing physical functions/components in the car. As part of your daily work you collaborate with our test object engineers and specialists connected to the HCLab.

Do you fit the profile?

We are looking for someone who is open minded, communicative and a great team player. It is also important that you are end-costumer focused, with a strong interest in creating the best user experiences. Finally, we would also like you to be self-driven, proactive and show sense for deliveries, including the skill to summarize and present status of your work.

We see that you have University degree in Software and/or Electrical Engineering or similar relevant experience together with solid experience in Unity.

You need to be fluent in English (written and spoken) and have a driver’s license (B)

If you also have the following skills, we consider it to be meritorious: 

  • Knowledge of automotive network topology and electrical architecture
  • Experience in working with prototype hardware and developing electronic and/or electro mechanical prototypes
  • Experience in Git, AR/VR applications
  • Experience in 3D software
  • Experience from working with agile development
