Software Engineer, R&D Development Tools - Build Pipeline

WHAT IS AXIS?
Axis is the market leader in network video. The majority of Axis' sales are generated by the video product area; network cameras, application software, video encoders and accessories.

We are looking for a Software Engineer to strengthen our firmware build system team.

THE TOOLS TEAM

We develop and maintain the tools to compile, test, and publish the software that goes into Axis' products. We strive to improve developers' productivity and relieve them of mundane tasks by providing a continuous integration pipeline that builds and tests their changes on dozens of Axis cameras in our labs and makes it easy for them to analyze any test failures.

We have a close relationship with stakeholders throughout the organization so that the build and test environment we provide supports how they want to work.

WHAT WILL YOU DO?
You will develop software to support Axis' R&D organization enabling fast development and integration of software.

More specifically you will work with development and maintenance of our firmware build system which is based on Yocto and BitBake. The build system doesn't exist on its own so you will work with integrations towards other tools such as Jenkins, Gerrit and Artifactory.

We have the ambition to provide highly available, scalable, automated and supported tools and services, using technologies like Docker and Ansible. You will work close together with Axis firmware developers, sometimes in a supporting role and sometimes as a change leader. We continuously drive improvements of our tools, infrastructure and methodologies and as you get to know your role and Axis you will have the possibility to be an evangelist for your own ideas and changes.

We prefer to use open source software and take an active part in contributing to the community.

WHO ARE WE LOOKING FOR?
Someone who is eager to learn and can't resist making life better for your co-workers by identifying issues and possible improvements, dissecting them and providing a way forward. While technical knowledge is important, we value your personality and your soft skills equally high.

Qualification and experience:

* A Master's or Bachelor's degree in computer science (or similar)
* Proficiency in English
* Senior Software development skills in Python
* Experience from Linux embedded development in C
* Experience from working with software build tools
* Great knowledge of and interest in tools and methodologies

Bonus if you have extra skills:

* Yocto Project experience
* OpenEmbedded experience
* Linux distribution maintainer or similar
* Contributions to open source communities
* Java
* IT infrastructure (network, storage, configuration, deployment, virtualization)
* Large scale software integration
