The Machine Directorate at the European Spallation Source (ESS) in Lund, Sweden, invites applications for a Senior DevOps Engineer.

Description of division
The Integrated Control System (ICS) division is responsible for the design, construction, commissioning and operation of control systems for the ESS facility including the linear accelerator, Target station, Neutron Scattering Instruments and building utilities management. The Controls Infrastructure group has the responsibility to deliver and maintain the IT infrastructure for the ESS control system and various systems.

Description of main responsibilities
We are looking for an experienced and energetic DevOps Engineer to join the ICS Infrastructure group. As a DevOps Engineer, you will participate in the maintenance of our software development processes, its specification and implementation of new features, updates and Lifecyle management.

• Design, implement and manage scalable and resilient infrastructure as well as automation tooling for routine operation tasks.
• Participate in team activities such as peer code reviews, design collaboration efforts and rotating on-call process.
• Leverage Automation, Configuration Management and Deployment tools to deliver CI/CD pipelines/workflows.
• Partner with our Standardisation and architecture team (START) and as well as partner organisations to confirm developed solutions align with existing standards, meet security controls and meet computing best practices.
• Develop tooling and associated processes to drive automation, efficiency, consistency and adherence to security and audit requirements and controls.
• Manage implementation and the ongoing operation of services as per approved designs, adherence to patterns, security requirements and certify all logging and monitoring are active for security and compliance.
• Investigate and monitor current-state application usage, solutions in use, risks, gaps, limitations and recommend solutions, optimizations and remediation.
• Maintain comprehensive and systematic configuration, lifecycle and security management of services.
• Ensure services and toolsets are deployed with best practices, standards and thorough documentation.
• Participate in the required operational, performance, capacity, security and other required metrics, reports and dashboards are created and reviewed.
• Investigate and implement process improvements, to enhance the reliability, stability and security of services and toolsets deployed using on-premise solutions 
• Develop various open source technologies to replace manual steps with automated workflows.
• Utilise various tools to orchestrate solutions for testing, staging and production environments.
• Build independent web-based tools, microservices and solutions.
• Implement bots, and webhooks to automate workflows by primarily using Python and its associated libraries.
• Manage source code versioning repositories GIT/Gitlab and Gitlab-CI build pipelines.

Qualifications
To be successful in this positions the canidate fullfill the follwoing requirements:

• Master degree in computer science, engineering, software engineering, or on the job experience.
• 10+ years of experience in IT Infrastructure cross platform technology areas, preferably with implementation and maintenance roles.
• 5+ years of experience in building, deploying and managing IaaS and PaaS services including: best practices, blueprints, patterns, high availability and multi-datacentre disaster recovery.
• Experience in a similar DevOps / SRE / Infrastructure role.
• Good appreciation of IaC (Infrastructure as Code), CI/CD and modern tooling such as Terraform, Ansible, Jenkins, GitLab, etc.
• Ability to code ideally with Python, Go, C, C++ or Java.
• Good knowledge of algorithms, data structures, complexity analysis and software design.
• Familiar with DevOps environments / Containerisation (Docker, Kubernetes).
• Excellent communication skills; collaborative and personable - happy to help take a lead on projects and provide mentoring hands-on experience in building and maintaining automated virtualisation infrastructure across production and non-production environments.
• Demonstrated experience in troubleshooting and solving issues involving private cloud and virtualisation services and toolsets.
• Excellent oral and written English skills are a prerequisite.

Duration & Location
