Cloud Native 5G RAN - vDU System Developer(530988)

Our Great Opportunity

PDU (Product Development Unit) Cloud RAN is building a full stack virtualization of the 5G NR CU (Central Unit) and DU (Distributed Unit) based on COTS (Commercial off-the-shelf) HW using cloud-native technologies. We are a newly formed organization in Ericsson that works closely with our customers and are passionate about delivering a virtualized Radio Access Network (RAN)!

We in the vDU Base and LB team are developing the vDU LB unit (virtual Distributed Unit, low band [sub 6GHz]). We have a very clear first customer with commercial deliveries happening now.

We accelerate the product development with new fresh thinking where we challenge the established flow with new methodologies and are active in the open-source communities. In a nutshell:

• Full stack virtualization of the 5G New Radio (NR) Control Unit (CU) and Digital Unit (DU)
• COTS HW including specific HW accelerators where needed
• Cloud Native infrastructure and technology
• Open standard interfaces (e.g F1 between the CU and DU units)
• Architecture for automation, artificial intelligence and machine learning

You will

Be actively engaged in the architecture definition and proactively drive the development of the Ericsson Cloud RAN vDU.

You should also:

• Be able to deliver scalability, resilience and performance by taking full advantage of the evolving architecture and services inherent to a Cloud Native Platform
• Foster systematization and implementation that enable rapid feature parity in a Standalone and Hybrid network environment
• Actively drive and lead studies in and beyond the vDU
• Actively contribute with code to our baseline

To be successful in the role you must have

• Familiarity with 5G NR and LTE 3GPP standards.
• Product development experience in Wireless embedded SW and/or Cloud Native product development, systemization, design and test
• Good communication and presentation skills
• A collaborative mindset which makes you a phenomenal teammate
• BSc or MSc degree level in a SW related field

Additional qualifications

• Experience working with Cloud Native core design principles – microservices, containers, pods, Kubernetes platform
• Product development experience in Wireless embedded SW and/or Cloud Native product development
• System simulation experience
• Programming in C/C++/Java/Python
