Senior front-end developer with product sense

EnginZyme is a Swedish startup founded in 2014 that is creating a new technology platform for sustainably producing the billion tonnes of plastics, nylons, rubbers, and all the other things that we touch on a day to day basis. We’re funded by well-known investors, have been recognized as a Technology Pioneer by the World Economic Forum, and employ some of the best researchers in their respective fields, from all over the world. We’re now looking for a front-end developer at the top of their game who wants to help us make the $5 trillion chemical industry sustainable and mitigate the threat of climate change.

What you’ll do

At EnginZyme’s Automation and Data Management team our goal is to simplify and accelerate lab work. Your job will be to build user interfaces that help our scientists interact efficiently and joyfully with robots and instruments, as well as help them visualize and understand the data that comes out of the experiments. In other words, you work will act as a multiplier on the output of the entire R&D department.

Key tasks and responsibilities are:

• Design software applications to improve the everyday scientific experience in the research lab
• Define milestones, timelines and deliverables with your tech lead
• Build and implement web applications
• Review code from your colleagues
• Create documentation and training materials for users

Who you are

We’re looking for someone who is passionate about implementing user interfaces, and can also design them. You don’t have to be a stellar graphical designer — your front-end dev skills are what matters the most — but you should care about UX and be the kind of person who sketches and iterates storyboards before writing your first line of code. We mostly use Vue.js but the exact frameworks you’ve worked with doesn’t matter as long as you know your JS, HTML and CSS like the back of your hand.

You by no means have to be a scientist yourself, but having an interest in science helps — hanging out with people in lab coats who use words like “transaminase” and "enzyme engineering" should make you excited rather than nervous. In terms of personal qualities, the person we seek is someone who gets things done without anyone having to tell them to, wants to push boundaries, and is also a friendly, cooperative person.
