Our Exciting Opportunity

Quantum Computers are rapidly emerging on the computing landscape due to their potential to tackle computationally intractable problems using novel quantum algorithms, which exploit the properties of quantum mechanics (superposition, entanglement etc..).

In parallel, the evolution of 5G towards limitless connectivity, intelligent network platform and edge computing to accelerate latency sensitive applications may increase the complexity of existing problems in the radio and core networks (e.g. discrete/continuous variable optimization, graph traversals, nonlinear equations, pattern recognition, classification, scheduling etc.) to the point where these problems are not solved efficiently using classical methods.

Thus quantum-inspired classical algorithms and pure quantum methods are to be considered for the relevant telecommunication problems. Since the near-term quantum machines characterized by fewer qubits and shorter decoherence time are being developed using competing technologies (superconducting, trapped ions etc..), each with its unique differentiator, the algorithms need to capture those unique characteristics of the underlying implementation technologies to fully exploit the noisy intermediate scale quantum (NISQ) era. Moreover, the interaction of quantum algorithms, the compilers and the runtime system need to be investigated to overcome the limitations of NISQ devices.

You will

  • Craft and steer novel concepts, solutions and algorithms within Quantum Computing and Quantum Algorithms.
  • Be part of a diverse team of hardworking and creative researchers to craft research direction and collaboratively tackle technical challenges. Typically, our work is performed in projects that may incorporate internal and external research collaborations across international borders and sectors.
  • Take the opportunity to develop and present your results as prototypes and concept demonstrations, where we put emphasis on the quality and re-usability of the developed software components.
  • Record, document and plan your work using industry standard development tools.
  • Patent your innovations.
  • Disseminate and publish your research results, internally at Ericsson and at international conferences.
  • Report to your line manager.

To be successful in the role you must have

  • PhD or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Mathematics, Experimental Physics, Telecommunications, or related technical fields
  • Knowledge in computer and software engineering for Quantum computers (including Q algorithms, Q programming languages, Q compilers and run-time systems)
  • Knowledge in Quantum Algorithms
  • Proficiency in algebra (vectors, matrices, tensors, ket/bra notation) and probability theory
  • Software development experience in one or more common programming languages (e.g. C++, Python, Java/Scala, etc.)
  • Solid background or hands-on experiences in at least one of the following fields:
  • Discrete Optimization Problems
  • Graph Algorithms
  • Machine Learning (Reinforcement Learning, Deep Learning, Training algorithms, etc.)
  • Strong analytical skills
  • Excellent ability to acquire new knowledge and apply it in the job
  • Creativity and a sense of teamwork alongside being able to work independently when required
  • Good communication skills in written and spoken English

You might also have experience in:

  • Developing patents
  • Contributing to research communities, including conference papers and other research publications
  • Establishing a personal network within academia and/or industry
  • Project or team leadership
  • Contributing to Open Source or leading Open Source projects
  • Product delivery to stakeholders
