DevOps Engineer

Quinyx is expanding and we're now looking for a talented DevOps Engineer to strengthen our engineering team. The team consists of a great mix of software developers, systems administrators, quality assurance and usability expertise. Our system is today built on a mix of Java and PHP on the server side, apps in Objective-C and Java and a mix of Adobe Flex/ActionScript and HTML5/CSS/JavaScript for our client applications. The servers are running a mix of Debian and CentOS, Debian servers are managed with Salt; all new tools relating to automation and builds are written in Python.

Your role at Quinyx!

In the role of a DevOps Engineer you will be working in an agile team making sure we can deliver our product as reliably as possible to our users. The team enjoys an autonomous way of working and continuously strive to improve its own processes, tooling options and skills (through ?Hack time? every Friday and ?Tech lunches? etc).

The DevOps approach we?re using at Quinyx is both embedded roles within the development teams and a team of full time DevOps Engineers working with generic tools and automation common for all projects; including infrastructure and working with empowering and encouraging the development teams to work in a modern way.

Skills!

Experience with putting web applications into production, maintaining and monitoring them in intelligent ways and writing tools to support build and development for development teams. Excellent knowledge of Python and general programming concepts such as data structures, programming patterns and object oriented approaches. Strong interest in working with programmable infrastructure, such as OpenStack and/or AWS. Managed servers and other hardware using management tools, such as Salt, Puppet, Chef or Ansible.
We would also like to see that you know the value of security and realise that there is a sweet-spot between security and convenience. Excellent English both in spoken and in written form.

We think you also have experience of!

Knowing the difference between layer 2 and layer 3 networking
Looking at servers and making them work
Playing with OS level packaging (preferably Debian)
Virtualisation in general, such as telling apart KVM, VMware and Xen
Configuring web servers, databases and know what a JVM is

You like to work in a highly independent cross functional team with a drive to deliver great software focusing on performance, maintainability and usability. You do this by studying developer behaviour, use a test driven approach and share knowledge with your team members.

It would be great if you!

Have already worked with AWS, OpenStack and/or Ceph
Know the current version of MySQL and could mention at least a couple of forks
Contributed code to any modern DevOps tools
Have a few bad things to say about container technology, but can still see the benefit of it
