DevOps Developer - Core Software Analytics

Your future Team

We are a relatively new team with 13 engineers and our main responsibility is to develop, operate, and maintain all the tools necessary to empower Axis's ambitious analytics agenda. Most of us come from sister departments within Axis and a few of us just started here. Experience ranges from freshly graduated to architects and experts which should make it easy for you get in and learn when you start no matter how much experience you have yourself.

We work in small agile teams where the team is free to choose tools and workflow. Being in small teams makes it easy for us to communicate and be efficient without having to spend a lot of time in meetings.

Analytics at Axis means employing Machine Learning and Deep Learning technologies in our devices to make automated analysis supporting the users, e.g. identifying a person or car, counting the number of people walking into a store etc. It is a rapidly growing area within Axis, and our team develops the tools and methods that all other teams leverage on. With our tools and services, we will make the difference!

What you will be working on

We are responsible for the full MLOps loop for all analytics teams. This means developing and operating services and methods for data collection and annotation, and algorithm training and evaluation. Since we are the hub of all analytics development, our services must be available at all times which means that we have an operational responsibility as well.

Our services and tools are running on prem, but in order to increase scalability we might be deploying as cloud services in the future. Since we are developing many of the tools from the start right now and there is much more to discover as we go, opportunities are endless. We use Python in a lot of our development, but we also use C++ and other languages.

What we believe you will bring to the team

We are looking for someone with an engineering degree that has worked with development and operation of DevOps tools and services in previous employments. Our services are running in containers in a Linux environment that we monitor and operate, so having experience of this, e.g. using Kubernetes, is something that is of high value to us.

One part of our tool chain is a cluster of GPU servers that we develop and maintain for training of the algorithms, so if you have worked with this in the past it is great. Another area that we see as meritorious is having worked with AWS and Azure since we are looking into scaling to cloud services in the future.

As a person, we believe that you are curious and driven with a deep interest in Software development. You respect all individuals and don't put yourself in front of others. We don't believe in giving you an exact specification on what to do, we want to benefit from the intelligence and skills of each individual to come up with the answers to our questions.

A big part of Axis's success is our teamwork and personal interactions, with means that we are looking for someone who enjoys working in Teams and interacting with other Teams.

Who will be your manager

As a manager, I believe in an active dialogue within and between the teams. We identify and solve challenges together. The teams are small and independent and able to perform the tasks without too much synchronisation and directions. The most important role I have as a manager is to try to unleash everyone's full potential. And for me, the way to do that is to give as much freedom as possible within our scope.
