Research groups at the Department of Neuroscience study different aspects of the function of the normal nervous system, as well as disturbances, injuries and diseases affecting the nervous system. Projects include a broad range of studies at the molecular and cellular levels, the network level and at the level of the overall organization of the nervous system.

The International Neuroinformatics Coordinating Facility (INCF) is an international organization
launched in 2005, following a proposal from the Global Science Forum of the OECD to establish international coordination and collaborative informatics – and currently has 18 member countries across North America, Europe, Australia and Asia.

INCH establishes and operates scientific programs to develop standards for neuroscience data sharing, analysis, modeling and simulation while coordinating an informatics infrastructure designed to enable the integration of neuroscience data and knowledge world worldwide and catalyze insights into brain function in health and disease.

Key Functions:
We seek an Bioinformatics Systems Engineer to join our team building a nextgeneration
neuroinformatics platform for clinical data. The ideal candidate will provide expertise in the system design, integration, deployment and administration of critical mission and support systems.

Duties will span development of a research infrastructure across around 80 clinical trial sites, coordination of systems, networks, facilities, and security assessments.
The candidate will be responsible for the development and maintenance of a neuroinformatics platform for clinical data collection and storage. The candidate will also coordinate, monitor and support a largescale data federation employing Amazon services.

The candidate will have experience in web services, cloud computing, data structures, database management and product architecture. They will cover all the aspects of the development including product design, client and server implementation, script writing, automation, deployment, and data monitoring.

Area of responsibilities/duties:
? Evaluate and deploy services for neuroinformatics platform
? Perform a wide range of system development duties within the project
? Oversee and maintain the neuroinformatics platform and anticipate future needs
? Support and extend international federated data infrastructure based in Amazon cloud
? Work with IT contractors and proactively
monitor services provided by them

Education/Experience:
Education/Experience M.S. in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Information Technology, and/or related technical discipline. 5+ years’ experience in a technical field. Alternatively, BS and 5 years of related experience or MS and 3 years of related experience or PhD and 1 year of related experience

Skills Required:
iRODS, TranSMART, Pentaho, HPC and bigdata systems development, Amazon
Web Services (EC2,S3), Linked Data, SQL databases (Postgres, Oracle, MySQL, or others), and thirdparty applications development experience with Python and/or Java. Experience in one or more scripting languages (Python, PHP, Ruby, Perl, etc.). Knowledge of Data Warehousing concepts and ETL tools

Skills Desired: Experience with large data sets/analysis, particularly in relation to clinical data, and scientific computing. We are looking for a friendly, positive and serviceoriented
individual with the ability to work independently as well as in a team environment. You are comfortable communicating with people from both business and IT (internal/external units). You are result oriented, take ownership for your actions and aim at delivering superior quality at all times. You are a fast learner and a problem solver with an optimistic approach to challenges. You are able to grasp complex systems/task. Additionally, the candidate needs excellent written and verbal communications skills in English.

Emphasis will be put on interpersonal skills, initiative personality and personal suitability.
