Are you a skilled Machine Learning Scientist with experience of applying state-of-the-art technologies? Do you want to contribute to the development of novel therapeutics? Then join the team unlocking the power of what science can do!

At AstraZeneca we harness data and technology to maximise time for the discovery and delivery of potential new medicines. Right now, we are embedding data science and Artificial Intelligence (AI) across our R&D to enable our scientists to push the boundaries of science to deliver life-changing medicines.

We are looking for new colleagues to join our Molecular AI department. This is an excellent opportunity to combine your scientific experience with your high ambition and enthusiasm to influence the development of AstraZeneca's future in applying your skills to drug discovery projects. The preferred location for these positions is Gothenburg (Sweden) but Cambridge (UK) can be considered.

What you will do
You will have a profound impact on multiple projects across AstraZeneca with a focus on developing machine learning models to discover new drugs. This will involve:

* Develop and apply a variety of machine learning methods to drug design
* Specifically, develop novel machine learning methodologies in molecular de novo design and synthesis prediction to further develop our world leading AI-based platforms REINVENT and AiZynth
* Design and optimize machine learning workflows to support projects in their search for truly novel chemical entities
* Work closely with chemists to understand their needs of new machine learning tools
* Plan, write and publish high quality scientific papers
* Actively participate in mentoring the cohort of postdocs, PhD students and master thesis students in the team

Essential for the role
We believe that you have a true passion for developing novel machine learning methodologies that will impact patients' lives. You have a PhD or equivalent in computational chemistry, computer science or another similar discipline. We also expect you to have a collaborative nature as well as;

* Experience in developing and applying novel machine learning technologies especially in deep learning
* Excellent written and verbal communication skills
* Software development skills, preferably in Python

Desirable for the role

Knowledge in computational chemistry is a great plus but with a strong knowledge in machine learning we expect that you will quickly develop into this role. Experience in developing and applying machine learning methods in an industrial setting are desirable as well as experience of PyTorch, TensorFlow or equivalent deep learning tools.

Why AstraZeneca?
At AstraZeneca we'll make the most of your skills and passion by actively supporting you. To do this, we've built an extraordinary international working environment with outstanding opportunities for collaboration, innovation and personal growth.
