Software Developer (Android)

The Opera Mini team is looking for software developers who have the curiosity and drive to join our Android team.

You will be working with Java, Kotlin and/or C++ on Android, but we believe that a good developer can learn and master any new field. We have humble and really skilled team members that are eager to share their knowledge and help you in any situation.

We believe in skills, not certification. While a good understanding of computer science and the realities of practical software development are a must, titles and diplomas play no role at Opera.

Our organization is flat and we work with iterative processes between a tight-knit group of product managers, designers, developers and quality assurance engineers.

Our tech stack:

• Kotlin/Java language
• Android API (min sdk 21)
• Coroutines/RxJava
• Native Code (JNI/C++/C)
• Android Jetpack solutions

To be successful in this role, you’ll need:

• Good Java/Kotlin skills
• Strong communication skills
• Knowledge of programming patterns
• 2+ years of experience developing Android applications
• Engineering knowledge: your code should be well-structured and comprehensible by other humans, not just computers
• Ability to asses, plan, implement and test tasks that are given to you
• Familiarity working with TDD pattern
• Good understanding of version control systems like git
• Good level of English, both written and spoken

An ideal candidate has:

• Expert Java/Kotlin skills
• Familiarity with Android API
• Knowledge of modern Android Design Patterns (Android Jetpack)
• Asynchronous programming knowledge (Coroutines/Rx/Multithreading)
• C++/C programming skills

Our recruitment process :

1. Short screening meeting with a simple development task (around 30 minutes).
2. Recruitment meeting with detailed explanation of project role, extended tasks connected with programming in general, and the opportunity to ask questions about working at Opera (around 2-3 hours).
