About the position

At Perido we are now looking for an Editor for a longer assignment at ECDCC – an independent and important agency of the European Union. Their aim is to strengthening Europe's defenses against infectious diseases. The core functions cover a wide spectrum of activities: surveillance, epidemic intelligence, response, scientific advice, microbiology, preparedness, public health training, international relations, health communication and the scientific journal “Eurosurveillance”.

The ECDC staff is currently working in a hybrid mode (i.e., both from office and from home). After an introduction at the agency’s premises, you can choose to proceed the work remotely or from the modern office nicely located just outside of Stockholm city.

Your daily tasks

In this role you will work in the unit called “Scientific Methods and Standards (SMS)”. This Unit leads the processes for strengthening the scientific excellence and the dissemination of knowledge within the organization and to partners. This includes the quality assurance of ECDC’s scientific work and the organization of ESCAIDE. The Unit is also responsible for ensuring the relevance and transparency of ECDC’s scientific outputs through appropriate consultation. In addition, the “Eurosurveillance” Editorial Office is hosted in this Unit.

You will take part in producing the in-house journal and you will have a close collaboration with peer-reviewers and authors, and perform tasks such as:

• Edit and proof-read ECDC’s scientific publications and other output for accuracy, consistency, clarity, style and structure.
• Implement consistent formatting and layout of texts in preparation for publication.
• In performing editorial tasks, collaborate closely with authors, experts and colleagues in ECDC.
• Write short texts such as publication abstracts.

Your qualifications

We believe the right person for this mission have some experience in writing and editing texts in English and are accurate and organizational in the use of language. You are committed and thoroughly when reading and reviewing material and you have an eye for details. In addition to this, your ability to organize your work and performing under pressure is excellent and you always strive to keep a constant communication with your colleagues to achieve efficiency within the team.

Requirements

• Education at university level, or other relevant post-secondary education and relevant professional experience
• Experience and skills in editing, writing and proof-reading texts in English, preferably in the area of scientific texts
• Project and time management skills
• Proficiency in formatting texts in MS Word as well as graphs and table in Excel
• Thorough knowledge of MS Office in general (Word, Excel, Power Point and Outlook)
• Excellent level of English, written and spoken

Meritorious

• Experience in editing in the medical, public health or other scientific field
• Knowledge of the publishing process
• Experience with desktop publishing software (such as InDesign)

Contract type and hours

Full time consulting assignment with Perido. We expect a total duration for this position between 9 and 12 months. Start 2022-06-01.
