Are you ready for a challenging, technically complex but highly rewarding task? Welcome to Autonomous Motion Planning and Control, a part of Scania's autonomous development. Here we develop the motion planning and motion control algorithms and make them work, in our trucks. Scania is at the forefront of the development of autonomous trucks, currently developing its first fully autonomous solution, with driverless trucks and an offboard system.

The challenge

We act in a field that changes at a fast pace, and with high demands on safety. We constantly need to improve our skills and question and change the way we do things, but always in a controlled and conscious way, and with our hearts and minds in the complete system. There will be high expectations on you to learn, deliver and impact, but you will also be rewarded: You will learn a lot, and you will be able to apply your competence and see it in use. And you will have fun doing it!

Your job

You will be welcomed into the highly skilled and competent autonomous motion planning and control team, developing software as a systems engineer. The team consists of people of different ages from around the world and we work closely with several other teams in an agile framework. You will divide your time between your home, the office at Scania Skutan, and the test trucks.

Technically, the input to our software modules is mainly localization, situation awareness, and a drive task, and the output is a motion plan and control signals to follow that plan, both longitudinally and laterally. We use simulation models and actual trucks for testing, analysis, and development. C++ is the coding language for the embedded software. Several tools are used for analysis and development; both external tools and tools we develop on our own, typically using Python.

We offer

The team needs to cover a wide spectrum of competencies, from theory via modern software development to low-level programming. You will have the chance to learn, develop and use these skills, and find your own way. We also offer an environment where we share knowledge, and you are encouraged to bring your own ideas and with them change the way the truck works and how we work. Moreover, understanding the customer needs and finding innovative solutions are essential to reaching our goals. Part of that means acquiring a C driving license for trucks and the possibility to visit our future customers abroad.

Who you are

As a person, your most important qualities are a hunger to learn, a passion for technology, and the drive and ability to make things work. When it comes to experience, we believe you have a Master of Science in Applied Physics, Electrical Engineering, Computer Science or similar, a solid mathematical foundation, and experience with software development. Experience with embedded systems, C++, and the automotive industry is an advantage.

Let’s go where no one has gone before!
