Lead OSS developer/maintainer

Job Description

You will be the lead developer and maintainer of a commercially sponsored open source project, developing a new tool for web performance.

You will have a lot of influence on the project road map and will work with a high degree of autonomy, building and maintaining the tool.

You will initially be responsible for writing the core functionality and then after the first release you will maintain the code base, interface with the user community (i.e. reject patches :) and potentially evangelize the tool. Your main, long-term goal will be to create the best possible tool, and to get as many people as possible to use it.

We are looking for a person combining very strong programming skills with project management capabilities, and who has experience working in open-source projects.

Applicants must:

• Have worked in open source projects, either as heavy contributors or, even better, as maintainers for projects with multiple contributors
• Have a strong programming background and experience in multiple languages
• Understand internet protocols well, primarily IP, TCP, HTTP but also preferrably HTTP/2, SPDY, Websockets, QUIC
• Be familiar with modern web development processes, practises, components and frameworks. Preferrably having recent experience developing web applications

It is great if you also:

• Have experience working with web performance, testing or optimisation
• Have experience working with network performance, testing or optimisation
• Have experience working with Python, Javascript, C/C++
• Know about things like Docker, AWS, microservices architecture, New Relic/APM tools

You should have a Github (or Bitbucket) account where we can look at code you have written.

We have written both hardcore, low-level networking software and high-level web user interfaces and become quite good at both of those things. We pride ourselves on understanding the lower levels of a networked application while at the same time realizing how incredibly important UX is. In 2009 we took the step and launched loadimpact.com. In 2011 it was made into a pure cloud service, and we have never looked back.
