Who are we?
Volvo Cars is a company on a mission; to bring traditional car manufacturing into a connected, sustainable and smart future.
Since 1927, we have been a brand known for our commitment to safety, creating innovative cars that make life less complicated for our consumers. In 2010, we decided to transform our business, resulting in a totally new generation of cars and technologies, as well as steady growth and record sales. Today, we’re expanding our global footprint in Europe, China and the US, and we’re on the lookout for new talent.
We are constantly pushing our own skills and abilities to drive change in the automobile industry like never before. We are looking for innovative, committed people to join us in this endeavour and create safe, sustainable and connected cars. We believe in the power of people and will challenge and support you to reach your full potential. Join us and be part of Volvo Cars’ journey into the future.

Who we are
We are in the frontier of the complex domain of AD simulation. Our group is called Software-in-the-loop Environments and we are part of an R&D organization called Safe Vehicle Automation, who is responsible for autonomous drive (AD) and advanced drive assistance systems (ADAS) that goes into Volvo Cars’ vehicles. Our purpose is to develop an in-house simulation platform for virtual testing and verification of AD & ADAS functions. Our vision is to ensure safe self-driving software by running billions of simulations on cluster before new software versions are released to our cars.

What you will do
You will be part of a scrum team developing an in-house C++ based simulation platform for verification of AD & ADAS software. For defining the simulation environment, this platform follows open standards for defining roads (OpenDRIVE), traffic scenarios (OpenSCENARIO) and sensor data (Open Simulation Interface). The team is also actively contributing to open-source development for tools we use in our simulator, such as the Python project scenariogenerator and the C++ project esmini for scenario playing. The simulator also includes sensor and driver models for interacting with the simulation environment and enables software-in-the-loop (SIL) testing of AD & ADAS software components.
The main challenges we face are to enable large-scale simulation solutions for AD testing and to promote verification and validation strategies that shift the mindset from testing in cars to testing extensively in SIL environments.

Who you are
You probably have a M.Sc. or PhD in physics, mathematics, or computer science, and have an interest in simulation. We see that you have some development experience in both Python and C++ and are interested in new technology and innovation. Most importantly, we are looking for a person who is good at networking with different stakeholders and can see “the bigger picture”.

Minimum requirements
* M.Sc. or PhD in any of the following
* Physics
* Mathematics
* Computer science
* C++ & Python experience
