About the team

You will be working in the Data Management & Analytics team, who are responsible for providing a strong, central data and analytics “centre of excellence” to the entire Bluestep organisation. Currently, the team consists of a mix of data engineers, data analysts, and risk modellers.

About the role

The initial key focus of the role will be to build up a data science capability in Bluestep, starting, in many ways, with a “blank piece of paper”. Whilst we see the enormous potential of this area, we need someone who can build up the technology stack and methodology from scratch.

A key part of this role will involve developing business cases together with senior businesspeople across the organisation. A key part of this will require educating the organisation, and in particular, top management, about what data science offers and what are realistic expectations. At the same time, it will also require a high degree of collaboration with the other analysts and data engineers in the team. Finally, it will also become important to also coach and mentor other analysts who wish to develop their skills.

Who are you?

You have an academic degree, to at least Masters’ level, in quantitative subject (finance, economics, mathematics, computer science, statistics, engineering or similar). You have worked for at least 3 years with data science and have a proven track record of delivering, and operationalising, predictive solutions and insights for the business.

In addition to a very strong quantitative background, you have done “hands on development” and can guide us in our selection of appropriate tools and M/L data architecture. You will also be naturally curious, especially in developing a deep understanding of our business and data.

Business Skills

- Must-have: demonstrable “real world” experience of building and operationalising predictive models that have delivered a tangible business value (e.g. recommendation engines, churn models, retention models, marketing responsiveness / segmentation models etc.)
- Nice to have: experience from banking sector

Functional Skills:

- At least 2-3 years experience developing, training and operationalising AI/machine learning models in appropriate tools (e.g. Python, R etc.)
- At least 2-3 years experience with a range of different machine learning algorithms
- Experience of working in a role that sits close to business, IT, and data engineering
- Experience of working using Agile methodologies
- Strong analytical and problem-solving background with very solid quantitative skills
- Strong communication skills, with a particular focus on being able to convince and explain “complex things on a simple level”
- Good team player - able to converse easily with senior businesspeople, subject matter experts, data analysts and data engineers

Technical Skills

- Experience of developing M/L solutions on cloud, preferably on the Azure stack.
- Experience of working with “classic” analytics stack components and techniques (data warehouse, data lakes, SQL queries etc.)
- Hands-on experience with “classic” data analysis techniques and data visualisation tools (e.g. SQL, Power BI)
