Data Engineer

DeLaval is now looking for a Data Engineer to join our Data Platform team. This team is a part of the Business Platform Cell in the Digital Services Unit of DeLaval.

The Digital Services Unit leads DeLaval’s transition to offer more digital services to bring unique value to dairy farmers, dealers, partners and its own organisation. These new services will support customers in making better use of their equipment as well as farm and cow data, to run more sustainable and profitable dairy operations. They will support dealers and DeLaval to improve customer support and internal efficiency.

We are on an exciting journey, connecting farms to the cloud, through data collection in combination with Machine Learning, we are able to create new and innovative solutions helping the dairy farmers all around the world.

Purpose of role and key responsibilities

The Data Engineer is responsible for new development, maintenance, support and operational activities of the DeLaval data platform

Following are the main tasks and responsibilities that the engineer is expected to perform.

Specific tasks

  • Handle ingestion, transformation, and processing of data in the analytics data platform.
  • Support data science, data enrichment, research, and data analysis as well as making data operationally able to be consumed by products and services.
  • Use tools provided by the analytics platform and write production-level code, adhering to and promoting best practices in the Data Engineering discipline.
  • Be part of building data-intensive solutions that are highly available, scalable, reliable, secure, and cost-effective.
  • Design, implement, deliver and monitor efficient and scalable data pipelines. • Integrate data from multiple sources to common data models.
  • Institute design patterns that support data ingestion, data movement, transformation, aggregation, and more.
  • Collaborate with product management, software engineers, and data scientists working toward achieving key results.

Qualifications and experience

To be successful in this role we see that you have:

  • Bachelor's or master's degree in computer science, information systems, engineering, or equivalent.
  • Hands-on experience with Python and SQL is required, experience with NodeJS is good to have.
  • Knowledge of AWS services S3, SQS, DynamoDB, Redshift, Athena, Apache AirFlow, CDK.
  • Basic knowledge of AI/ML, data science, CI/CD pipelines, GitLab • Experience in ETL, Data Lake, and data warehouse pipelines.
  • Fluent in structured and unstructured data, its management, and modern data transformation methodologies.
  • Effectively and creatively tell stories and create visualizations to describe and communicate data insights.
