Distributed Systems Engineer - Building Kalix

Lightbend is seeking a Distributed Systems Engineer to join the team. This role will be responsible to help bring our vision for the next generation Cloud to Edge Platform-as-a-Service to life.

While offering a simple programming model for multiple languages, Kalix -- Lightbend’s Platform-as-a-Service aims to deliver seamless scalability to its users, freeing them from operational concerns such as databases and server administration.

As Distributed Systems Engineer you will combine the tools of modern cloud computing with Akka’s clustering capabilities, and distributed systems patterns and techniques, to relieve our users from operational concerns.

Responsibilities

• Develop Lightbend’s Cloud and Edge products
• Improve our libraries, which are partly Open Source, for the needs of our products
• Be involved in operating Kalix, the Platform-as-a-Service
• Collaborate with our clients and help them use our platform

These duties may change as Lightbend’s offering evolves over time to best meet the needs of its clients.

Qualifications

You should be technical and team-oriented with the following qualifications and experience:

• Passionate about concurrent and distributed programming
• Experience from operating systems deployed across multiple cloud providers in multiple regions
• Have advanced programming skills (Scala, Go, Rust)
• Advanced experience building Kubernetes operators
• Experience in using Akka is a required
• Degree in Computer Science or similar field
• Adept at learning and applying new technologies
• The team is distributed, a very high degree of both autonomy and teamwork skills are required
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills (English)

Location

This position is open to candidates based in Sweden.
