We at the Propulsion System Control team are a small group of highly skilled professionals, who share a passion for technology and developing products that makes a different for the Volvo Group’s customers and society. Our responsibility is to design, develop, test, and verify an embedded software application to control the final request for propulsion or retardation from the driver of the vehicle.


The work we do includes to distribute this request to one or several electric motors, and control the gearbox in combination with the electric motors during gear shifting. This needs to be done for the whole electrical propulsion system, which includes the electric motors, gearbox, and the control system. It also includes respecting limitations from the batteries. Together we are integrating the parts and make it a fully functional system with good performance, drivability, and serviceability on the aftermarket.


Our team is also a part of the exiting Electromobility department, an environment that combines the benefits of a large international company with the feeling of working at a small company. In our inspiring facility at CampX, teamwork and collaboration are the foundation for the great productions and innovative ideas that we create.


The role


As an Embedded Software Application Development Engineer within our Propulsion System Control team, you will primarily work with developing functionality in the embedded software, using model-based tools such as TargetLink or Ascet. And be a part of system engineering work using Systemweaver and similar tools for requirements and architecture for our different areas.


Who are you?


As a person you are highly collaborative with a drive to deliver and adapt technical standards and solutions to meet the demand and keep our customers satisfied. You need to understand embedded functions development and coding rules. We believe that you either have previous experience from the automotive industry, system development or software development. If you are more of a junior function developer, you need to have a great attitude and a willingness to learn and gradually take on more responsibility.


Overall, you need to be able to grasp a wide technical area where automotive, embedded systems, batteries, transmissions, electric machines, charging system, testing, continues deployment are great assets. You also need to understand the customers’ needs when using the Volvo products in everyday life.


Relevant Experience:

  • BSc or MSc Degree in Electrical Engineering, Physics, Mechatronics or equivalent
  • Experience in several areas like embedded software development, TargetLink, Simulink, programming in C-code, python, Ascet, SystemWeaver and requirement management
  • Vehicle or automotive experience, possibly C-driving license or similar from other industries like trains, aircrafts, ships, robotics etc
  • Experience of virtual testing and verification
  • Experience from full scale testing in vehicles
  • Good teamworking and communication skills
