Job Description

We are looking for an experienced Software Engineer to help develop the platforms and tooling to support our Engineering Culture. The team will jointly own and develop the platforms and tools owned by Engineering Culture:

You will play a pivotal role in driving the success of:

  • Taking the TechRadar to the next level and developing it to be more user-friendly and relevant for the organization. The goal is to have the best TechRadar in the industry and allow it to be a natural point of entry for teams seeking to understand the Technology and Tooling landscape of Business Tech.
  • Developing technically verifiable guardrail compliance checks
  • Developing, maintaining, and clarifying the Engineering Community information site (TechSpot)
  • Supporting the integration and adoption of the central knowledge repository (e.g.. Stack Overflow)
  • Own, develop, and maintain future core tools and platforms that support the Engineering Culture of BT.

Some of your responsibilities will include:

  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to design, implement, and maintain tooling so that they are relevant for their Developer Journey.
  • Continuously monitor the health and performance of the supplied tooling to secure availability and performance.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve operational or performance-related issues together with operations. (During business hours, no on call)
  • Understand guardrails and implement technical and automatic verification to measure guardrail compliance (supported by Internal Developer Portal Tooling)
  • Collaborate with stakeholders, including developers, architects, and infrastructure teams, to understand requirements, gather feedback, and continuously improve the tools and platforms offered by us
  • Provide demos and learning sessions, training colleagues to use our tooling as intended.
  • Document configuration, processes, and procedures related to the tooling provided by the Team, ensuring the availability of comprehensive and up-to-date documentation.

Qualifications

  • Proven experience as a Software Engineer, preferrably with true Full Stack experience.
  • Experience with software development frameworks, tools, and methodologies (e.g., Agile, Scrum, DevOps).
  • Strong technical skills in front-end development and associated libraries and frameworks (e.g. javascript, css, react, jekyll, svelte, typescript, sass, bootstrap)
  • Strong technical skills within backend development (e.g. ruby, python, RESTful APIs, json, relational DBs)
  • Solid understanding of infrastructure-as-code (IaC) concepts and experience with infrastructure automation tools (e.g., Terraform, ARM).
  • Experience with cloud platforms (e.g., Azure, GCP)
  • Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines and DevOps practices, including automation, testing
  • Experience with platforms for monitoring and logging (e.g. Grafana, Splunk).
  • Strong troubleshooting skills with the ability to analyze and resolve complex technical issues.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with team members and stakeholders.

It's good if you have experience with GitOps (e.g., Flux, ArgoCD) and developer portals
