Senior Product Designer to Alva Labs

Job hunting can be rough, especially if you have a gap in your CV, if you have a foreign name, or simply if you want to change careers. Did you know that women have to send in 30% more applications than men, and that people of color have to send in 50% more applications than white people to get a job interview - simply because of human bias?

At Alva, we are committed to building an inclusive product that provides everyone with an equal opportunity to showcase their capabilities and where candidates can efficiently be matched with relevant job opportunities. We are currently seeking a collaborative Product Designer to join our team - and this could be the perfect fit for you!

The company
Alva Labs was founded in 2017 and offers a digital candidate assessment solution that helps over 500 companies worldwide drive more accurate and efficient hiring processes. Our platform provides Talent Acquisition Managers, Recruiters, and Hiring teams with the insights to make confident and efficient hiring decisions while delivering a high-quality candidate experience. At the same time, we provide candidates with the means to demonstrate their full potential to employers.

We develop easy-to-use assessments based on leading research in psychometrics, best-in-class coding tests, and a smooth, modern workflow that integrates with other HR platforms. All tied together in a fantastic user experience. This matters because it enables high-impact matches between companies’ needs and candidates’ potential.

The role
Design is not just part of Alva. It’s baked into every step of the way how we build our products and services. One of our most appreciated features is the ease of use and the user experience. Features we have managed to deliver thanks to our great designers.

Our team of Designers reports to our Chief Product Officer (CPO) and merges science and engineering to develop elegant solutions and a user-friendly product. They work in close collaboration with each other and their squads. We believe that Designers should possess the ability to identify the right problems, evaluate and propose effective solutions, and articulate ways to build the right thing.

In your day-to-day work, you will:

Work in a highly collaborative fashion with Product Managers, Engineers, Data Scientists, Sales reps, and Customer Success Managers to define both long-term strategy and short-term tactics.

Be self-sufficient by taking full ownership of your work. You will be responsible for every detail, every step of the way, from whiteboard sketching to high-fidelity build specifications.

Rapidly produce multiple concepts and workflows, understanding when deeper exploration is warranted and when it is best to change paths and try another approach.

Plan, conduct, and analyze user research with recruiters, customers, and candidates. Take into account existing insights, technical constraints, business needs, and specific platform demands to produce data-informed solutions.

Contribute to product growth through experimentation and optimization of existing user journeys.

Participate in design reviews and share your work regularly with the design and leadership teams to constantly improve the product and ensure consistent, great UX across all product surfaces.

Collaborate with the other designers and adjacent teams to continuously improve our Ways of working in Design.

You
This time, we are seeking an experienced Product Designer that has a solid track record of working with design systems and launching products. While experience with a SaaS product is preferred, we value your expertise regardless of whether it lies in B2C, B2B, or agency contexts, as long as you have a track record of seeing your designs being shipped to production and having iterated on them based on user feedback.

Today the design team is small, but as we grow, so will the team, and it will also mean a need for a design leader. We love filling teamlead roles with internal promotions and think that you have the aspiration and potential to lead the team down the line.

To be a successful candidate, you:

Have extensive work experience as a Product Designer, UI/UX Designer, and/or Visual Designer.

Possess core design skill sets, including visual design, prototyping, interaction design, and information architecture.

Have plenty of experience in planning, conducting, and analyzing user research.

Excel in explaining your work, process, and findings to cross-functional stakeholders, actively seeking feedback to produce your best work.

Thrive in ambiguous situations and possess a knack for finding opportunities that others may overlook.

Take ownership over design projects from start to finish, independently involving and leading contributors such as product managers, engineers, and people scientists to a successful outcome.

Fluency in English is a must, as it is our organizational language. However, Swedish proficiency is not required.

What we offer
Alva’s team of 70ish people represents 18 (!) different nationalities and a wide selection of professional backgrounds within everything from growing tech companies, psychology, psychometrics, data science, engineering, and product design.

The problem we are solving is not just engaging and interesting (the combination of psychological science and statistics, with a large chunk of candidate experience obsession, what’s not to love?!), but it is also something that has a tremendous impact on both people and businesses. You will have the opportunity to work with something that truly makes a difference. We have come a long way and have happy users - both candidates and customers - but we are only getting started. It is now time to take the next big steps in becoming what we want to become; the product that can be the game-changer in company building around the world.

Besides, we have flexible work hours and apply a hybrid-remote setup, where you can choose yourself what works best for you, either from our newly renovated office in central Stockholm or from wherever you decide you do your best work. You will get seven weeks of vacation, an on-market salary, a generous wellness allowance, and a few other neat perks.

The hiring process
Given that we claim to be experts in hiring, you probably wonder what we have in store for you.
