Senior Infrastructure Engineer - Sporting Big Data

As Senior Infrastructure Engineer you will be responsible for the provisioning, administration, and security of all our privately hosted hardware. You will also be in control of packaging and deploying applications from our development team, holding them to the highest standards.

Our technology needs to be available globally meaning real-time data replication between Europe and Asia. If you think you have what it takes then we want to hear from you.

What you will be doing

• Making sure that our products are available real-time in low latency around the world
• Designing, building and allocating server resources as required by applications
• Making sure our internal tooling is always working and redundant across data centres (LDAP, Mail, etc)
• Making sure our systems are hacker proof
• Ensuring that our applications have fast and redundant networking connections for uninterrupted operation
• Ensuring that our Disaster Recovery plan will not fail
• Managing tooling for application systems including Hadoop
• Creating, supporting and maintaining our continuous delivery platform helping our teams increase the quality and speed
• Creating and administering application packaging and deployment for development teams
• Working closely with other engineers to advocate sensible, scalable, systems design and share responsibility with them in diagnosing, resolving, and preventing production issues

We presently have a mix of technologies and operating systems including bare metal servers, virtualised servers, and a Hadoop cluster. We also utilise temporary resources provided by 3rd party suppliers as well as cloud services.

About You

• You build and administer linux based systems for production environments
• You enjoy working and growing in a team, and understand teamwork is the only way to get things done
• You love learning and want to improve your knowledge and are not scared by a challenge
• You have excellent interpersonal and communication skills
• You have an expert level with Virtualisation, Linux (CentOS) management, scripting and automation
• You have dabbled with or have a working knowledge of Windows servers
• You have excellent knowledge of network optimisation (internal and external), & love a challenge to make networks faster on a global level
• You enjoy automation of system builds and maintenance - we’d like to use tools like Puppet, Jenkins, Fabric/Ansible, and Packer
• You have experience with Python or Java development (or other programming experiences and are willing to learn)
• You have advanced scripting/programming – not just writing good scripts or Puppet code, but keeping code in version control (we use Git), reviewing changes from others, and writing good documentation
• You are excited about designing and building distributed and scalable systems
• You have an European passport or have free movement within the European Union
