We are looking for a Senior R&D Software Engineer that will define and develop concepts for the new generation software platform for digitalization of mine hoist systems and services.

As a member of the global R&D team, covering different technology areas of mine hoists, you will be part of a team that shapes the technical content of ABB mine hoist systems and services globally. Your innovative and qualitative solutions will enable our customers to reach their targets of both productivity and sustainability through best in-class technology.

This position is reporting to Global R&D and Technology Manager. Location can be flexible but preferable in one of our main centers in Montreal, Johannesburg, Shanghai or Sweden.

Your responsibilities

  • You will have the opportunity to develop and enhance software applications and define the architectural concepts for the new generation software platform for digitalization of mine hoist systems and services. This includes cloud, on-premise, edge architecture, software development and design.
  • Guiding and mentoring team members in areas of software development, DevOps, cyber security and software architecture. Ensure the team follows best practices, focusing on high-quality code, test coverage, support, maintenance and release management.
  • Ensure software engineering is carried out in compliance with ABB standards, processes, guidelines and cyber security requirements.
  • With your background you have the competence to judge if the requirements from Product Management can be fulfilled and do a rough estimate of the scope of work.
  • Execute assigned design and development activities focused on building solutions efficiently, cost-effectively, and in accordance with quality standards.
  • Deliver high quality and efficient code according to best coding practices and ABB coding conventions.
  • Lead the Cyber Security field within the R&D team across all products, provide guidance and expertise, perform assessments and be the contact person towards the division and other business lines.

Your background

  • You have a university degree in relevant field and around 7 years of proven work experience. This includes backend development (preferably C# .NET), cloud experience (preferably Azure) and cyber security.
  • Experience in Azure DevOps and Agile processes is an advantage. It is also a plus if you have experience in industry, especially mining industry, and have worked with IEC 62443.
  • Being part of a global team, fluency in English both written and spoken is a must.
