Head of Interior Design

The Head of Interior Design is a global role. The successful candidate will be based in the Gothenburg studio but also have an overview of activities at Volvo Cars' other studios in China and California. Disciplines that fall into the remit of the Head of Interior design position are Interior Advanced Design and Interior Production Design. The position will be responsible for interiors of all Volvo Car passenger vehicle programs and report directly to the Senior Vice President Design.

Key Responsibilities
To deliver outstanding Volvo Interior Design.
To develop, present and sell in creative Interior design strategy at the highest level that reinvigorates the Volvo brand and carries it forward. To lead the design team to translate great Interior strategy into outstanding proposals and class leading products.
To work with Senior Designers and their design teams to bring new interior designs to life.
To develop strong relationships with adjacent Volvo engineering and marketing disciplines in order to secure their commitment to new interior designs.
To instil an atmosphere of energetic creativity across all Volvo Design Studios that ensures delivery of exceptional interior design.
To inspire senior designers to perform at the highest levels of creativity and produce interior designs of outstanding quality that deliver the highest levels of premium interior customer experience.
To develop strong relationships with key suppliers and Volvo plant based personnel at all levels to ensure that class-leading design is delivered in production.
To develop interior designs, which best support the growing integration of the digital UI/UX experience for our customers
Work across disciplines within design to develop strategies, which will appeal to new thoughtful and tech savvy customers

Has a clear design philosophy and is able to articulate it in an inspirational fashion.
Able to demonstrate a strong aesthetic sense.
Expert knowledge of materials, component technology and key automotive systems.
Proficient in the development of concepts, insights and perspectives on design attributes.
A keen awareness of "cutting edge" technical developments that influence design.
Well versed in the world of design and able to draw on design trends and inspirations beyond automotive.
Proven ability to build transdisciplinary design teams; cultivating a modern and nimble approach to product development
Highly skilled at guiding integration of the latest UI technologies and leveraging for a premium interior user experience
First-hand experience working in Silicon Valley integrating tech and design
Strong knowledge of CMF applications and use in an automotive context

Career Profile & Experience
Design degree educated
Experienced in all Design development phases from Advanced to Production
Experience from working in different parts of the world
Clearly able to demonstrate expertise in Interior Design Leadership.
An excellent knowledge of emerging technologies and competitive design trends
Demonstrable expertise in the use of creative tools and processes (classic and/or digital)
Able to articulate a clear understanding of the Volvo Car brand and its DNA
Experience leading multidisciplinary design teams; interior, UI, design engineering, digital and clay modelling
Several years of experience combining Silicon Valley tech with interior product development; through trend research & tradeshows and multidisciplinary work with software developers and tech teams
At least 2 years' experience managing advanced CMF concepts for automotive interior applications
Experience setting vision and driving a strategy for global design teams
