As a DevOps engineer at Praqma, you will collaborate and consult with some of the leading businesses in Scandinavia. Our business model is not like your average resource consultancy, we pride ourselves on providing consultants with deep expertise as engineers, but who also come as part of a team. A DevOps engineer at Praqma works closely with the customer to improve their development process. In practice this can mean setting up automated server provisioning and deployment automation for both production and test environments. It can mean setting up Continuous Delivery pipelines and build automation. The ambition is to train and mentor the customer’s own staff, so we leave them with the skills and knowledge to operate everything we set up.

Consultants with Praqma do not spend all their time at the customer. We invest a lot of time in training, attending internal and external courses and conferences. In addition you are expected to spend time on pet projects, reading books, listening to podcasts, researching topics that interest you, and writing blog posts.

The below list of skills is wide-ranging and we are not expecting people to be expert with everything. We’re looking for deep experience and skill in a one or two of these areas, coupled with ambition and curiosity to learn some of the others. In each area the technologies listed should be seen as examples not exclusive requirements.

Software development: you may be skilled with Java, Python, C/C++, Ruby, Perl or Javascript.
System Administration: you may be experienced at managing a server park based on Linux, Windows or in the cloud with AWS, Azure or OpenStack.
Build Automation: you may have set up build systems using Jenkins or Go.CD together with Maven, SBT or Gradle
Configuration Management: you may be skilled managing Git servers, ClearCase, Mercurial or Subversion, together with Nexus or Artifactory.
Containerization and Virtualization: you may be experienced configuring Docker, OpenShift, Kubernetes, Virtual Box or VMWare.

We do things that seem crazy from the perspective traditional IT consultancy. We are not crazy, but just in case you think we are, let me explain why we do things differently.
