In our Connectivity section within Scania R&D, we develop new solutions for connected vehicles (“Internet of things”), as part of Scania’s increasing focus on communication, services and smart transport solutions.

Data analysis is a cornerstone enabler in this development. Therefore, we now reinforce our competence center for advanced analytics with additionally one or two data scientists. Within the center, we develop learning systems and data driven models based on vehicle data, as well as the methods and algorithms needed to enable this analysis. With us, you can develop your expertise while you as part of Connectivity work cross-functionally with the development of new product-integrated services and solutions at Scania. The role is based on-site in Södertälje, Sweden.

Your tasks
You are part of our competence center for advanced analytics, working cross-functionally with other groups to create value for Scania’s customers:

You develop, in a systematic way, learning systems, data-driven models, methods and algorithms, based on vehicle data, to together with our product teams develop services and products based on connected vehicles.
You support other parts of the organization with advanced analytics, by collaborating with domain experts and/or local data scientists to understand organizational needs, suggest technical approaches and finally deliver the right decision-making material.
You participate in research projects with external partners to stay up to date with and develop new methods to meet the organization’s future needs within advanced analytics.
You contribute towards wide enabling of data analysis throughout the organization, e.g. by actively participating in cross-functional work related to data quality, data sharing, competence sharing and BI-tools.

Your profile
You have a relevant academic background in data science and good grasp of modern algorithms and system architectures suited for computational clusters, distributed systems and streaming data. Depending on project involvement, you will likely work with technologies such as Hadoop, Spark, Hive, Amazon Web Services, Kafka, C#, Scala, Python, R and SQL. Your background is likely a mix of programming, systems development, statistics and mathematics.

The team tackles a wide variety of problems and experience in any of the following areas will be beneficial in the role: deep neural networks, continuously learning systems, crowdsourcing, computer vision, autonomous systems, signal processing, project management, geospatial analysis, information visualization, web development, manufacturing industry, development of products or services, financial analysis and organizational analysis.

You are a very analytical person, with strong attention to detail and openness to constructive critique. Due to the rapid technical development within data science, you must have a strong interest in continuous professional development. You likely enjoy product development, a strong mix of personal freedom and responsibility, and continuously strive for technical excellence. You are expected to collaborate well with people with within and outside of your domain of expertise. Fluent English is required, Swedish is desired.
