Job Summary:

Open source software developers, designers, architects and data scientists at Ericsson Development Unit Networks, 4G5G RAN Incubator

We are hiring software developers that are enthusiastic about data and cloud backend systems to focus on building the next-generation data-driven operations platform for telecom infrastructure by contributing to a leading global open source project which is part of the Linux Foundation. The telecommunications field is transitioning towards virtualized platforms and Ericsson is leading this transformation

Several positions are available, with a requirement for minimum experience of 3 years in a software developer role. Right now, we will not consider new graduates for these roles except in cases when they can demonstrate equivalent experience in an open source community.

What you’ll do:

You and the team will each take on hybrid software engineering roles. Flexibility to take on tasks and move between engineering, architecture, design and even data science roles is expected.
Explore novel ways of producing operational data, automate its processing and analysis to produce insights onto systems that scale to tens of millions of subscriptions
Work with state-of-the-art service and network orchestration as well as data processing frameworks, technologies, and platforms
Work in a multi-functional agile team with end-to-end responsibility for feature development and delivery within your open source contribution mission
Start by building proofs of concept and scale them to hundreds of thousands of instances
Cooperate globally in a vibrant open source community while working from our office in Kista, Stockholm or Linköping (Sweden)
Work with other software developers, data analysts, data scientists, and decision-makers, such as product owners, to build solutions and gain novel insights.

The organization you will become part of:

RAN-I, within the Product Development Unit (PDU) 4G&5G, is the new Incubator unit where we make brilliant new ideas grow into products. Our organization is newly formed and we strive to strengthen it with skilled people. We are responsible for providing Radio Access development on a server / cloud infrastructure as a well as driving the management and orchestration open source contributions into the 5G future. Being one of the first in the organization, you will be a key actor when it comes to setting up the environment, tools, testing framework and strategies together with some of the exceptional people already involved. At Ericsson we are team players. The team is responsible and needs to have the required knowledge to drive the software products from start to finish.

Who you are:

You love working in a small team and interact well with other people in a positive, low-ego and collaborative environment
You are comfortable bringing clarity and focus to widely specified assignments and adapt fast to changing requirements
You are enjoy exploring technical problem solving in creative ways and understand responsible experimentation
You are truly passionate about creating clean code and have a solid foundation on developing scalable cloud backend software
You are interested in having your work visible in a major software repository
You enjoy learning new technologies and move between different stacks

You have a degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, IT or equivalent discipline, or the equivalent level of knowledge. We assume that you can speak and write in fluent English.

Here are some examples of technologies that you will work with:

Programming languages: Java, Python
Cloud platforms: Openstack and KVM; Docker and Kubernetes
Data engineering: Kafka, Kafka Streams, Flink, Beam, ZeroMQ
Databases such as Hadoop (CASK), Cassandra, InfluxDB or PostgreSQL
Modelling languages such as YANG and TOSCA
Tools such as Prometheus and Grafana
