Job Description

Do you pride yourself for building excellent software?

Do you want to do good?

We provide education to kids in Tanzania, where there is a shortage of schools, teachers and books. And we provide education to refugees fleeing from war zones, who don't speak the language of their host country yet.

Your job with us would be to work with our growing tech team to help design and build an improved way of accessible learning. We spend a lot time to learn about what students care about and how they behave. And we listen in to what the cognitive sciences says about accelerated learning. With those two as reference, we build the services that help students make the most of their time, regardless of language, location or availability of previous schooling.

We're a bunch of film makers, researchers, and artisans who make a new breed of interactive content for education. The platform we have developed works pretty well, but need it to perform better, and we want it to be more sparkling, gamified, and clever.

Some of the requirements have to do with operating in remote locations in Africa, with patchy network coverage, others have to do with catching and keeping the students' attention, and establishing new long term memories as fast as possible. The platform is mobile first, built on Laravel and Ember.

Our users can be demanding. Teenagers in Sweden and Tanzania are like teenagers anywhere, with a short attention span and little patience for things that don't work. To make sure we meet their requirements we test everything we do with our users, from early prototypes to the final design. That can be harsh, but also very rewarding, and it's never a waste of time.

We like to think we have got a pretty good grasp of Scrum, SOLID-principles and Lean, and hope that you do too. More than anything, we look for someone with a profound understanding of software architecture and ability to turn that into code.

Ideally you also have a good grip of the key technologies we use; Laravel/PHP and Ember/JavaScript. But if we must choose, it's more important that you have deep insights in development of scalable solid internet software. We believe that a talented developer with the right mindset can pick up a new framework and language pretty quickly, but not necessarily the other way around.

In your application, please reference one or two of the projects you are most proud of. Point us to code in GitHub, that you have written and which is representative of your skills and style. If you are involved in Open Source projects, that's a strong merit.

Also, if you speak another language than Swedish and English it is a great asset, as we work with producing media in seven languages and counting.

Does all of this sound good, but you don't have the deep developer experience we are looking for? Still a pretty good Laravel developer with a passion for education? Drop us a line anyway. We have junior positions available too.

Here's more from us: studi.se/jobs

We are 10 full timers on site, and about 50 freelancers around the world. The team is a good mix of ages, genders, origins and professions.

Our office is in central Stockholm. We share it with a bunch of other start ups, including two game developers, one gambling company, a recruitment service, an online travel agency and some more.

The company started four years ago, and while still small we are becoming a recognised player in the Swedish ed tech market. During 2014 we took our first steps abroad with a project in Tanzania. The next few years we expect to grow in the African and Asian markets.

All employees have insurance and a pension plan. Stock options available for key roles.
