SEED and the Challenge Ahead

SEED is an innovation and applied research hub in EA Worldwide Studios. We bring together world-class talent and experts to explore, build, and help define the future of interactive entertainment. Our work combines creativity with state-of-the-art technologies.

We deliver and foster innovation through research, prototypes, exploration, and integration with game teams. Our bedrock is never-ending curiosity. We collaborate with industry partners, and we publish and present our research within our industry and to the public. Our recent work includes: bringing digital humans and characters to life; using machine learning for game AI and testing; and developing novel real-time graphics and physics techniques.

We are looking for a Research Engineer to join an expanding team in Stockholm working on applications of deep learning and related techniques for use in interactive entertainment.

What does a Research Engineer in Deep Learning do at SEED?

  • Act as a forward-thinking ML expert with a strong technical background in deep learning and related techniques for use in interactive entertainment
  • Develop new approaches in areas of research include game AI, human-like behavior, animation, computer graphics and vision, physics, body and shape reconstruction, generative models and content generation, and human-computer interaction
  • Bring new ideas to the table, and discuss how we can solve some of the hardest challenges in video game content creation and testing
  • Work hand-in-hand with other researchers and software engineers to productize some of the research and bring them to EA games
  • Work with game teams and central technology groups to understand needs and collaborate with engineers in overlapping areas
  • From time to time you may be asked to contribute your work directly to the games being developed

We are looking for talented, self-motivated individuals with the capability and drive for innovation, with a strong desire to explore and master new areas. Qualifications

  • MSc, or PhD experience in machine learning, computer science, physics or mathematics
  • Demonstrated knowledge and contributions to machine learning or reinforcement learning, e.g. in the form of research publications, open-source software or workplace experience.
  • Demonstrated interest and knowledge in working with game development and/or interactive media technologies, such as NLP, speech, or multimodal interaction.
  • Good math skills including, linear algebra, probability theory, and numerical optimization
  • Experience with Numpy, Tensorflow, PyTorch or similar ML toolkits
  • The ability to read, understand, and explain to others, scientific papers on state-of-the-art machine learning and computer science, as well as the ability to prototype, evaluate and improve upon the ideas
  • Ability to share your work, publish, open source and speak at conferences.

We seek an open and curious person who is eager to learn and teach. You get a kick out of taking bleeding-edge ideas, investigating and adapting them to real use cases for games. This is a diverse team with big ambitions, and we expect you to work with a wide range of tasks as well as taking initiative.

Good to have

  • Interest in video games, computer vision
  • Ability to quickly prototype and test ideas in the best tool to prove out results fast
  • Knowledge of Python and/or C++/C#
  • Experience with game engines (eg.: Unity, Unreal, others)
